Sustainability
At Sky Lights – The Lantern Festival, sustainability is woven into every part of our vision. We believe that light should inspire, not harm. That beauty should uplift, not leave a trace. Every decision we make reflects a deep respect for the environment and the communities who share it with us. Sky Lights is built on the principle that a magical experience can also be a responsible one.
Our approach begins with the materials we use. All sky lanterns, water lanterns, packaging, and tableware are fully compostable or biodegradable. Everything is created from natural or plant- based materials designed to return safely to the earth. From lantern fibers to food packaging, we choose products that honor the environment while maintaining the integrity of the festival’s aesthetic and artistic experience.
Waste reduction is another core pillar of our sustainability mission. Throughout the festival, guests can enjoy free water refill stations that eliminate the need for single-use plastic bottles. Tickets are fully digital to reduce paper waste, and all merchandise and vendor products are intentionally designed with minimal packaging. Recycling stations are placed throughout the festival grounds to make it easy and intuitive for visitors to dispose of materials responsibly.
Our “Leave No Trace” promise ensures that the festival grounds are cared for with the highest respect. After the event, our team and volunteers conduct a complete cleanup of the area, collecting all festival materials as well as any external litter found on-site. We are committed to leaving the landscape cleaner than we found it, restoring the natural environment and protecting it for the community and the generations to come.
Green energy and eco-friendly mobility are also essential to reducing our footprint. Whenever possible, the festival is powered by solar energy and low-energy lighting systems, designed to create breathtaking visual effects without unnecessary environmental cost. We encourage guests to travel sustainably by using public transport, cycling, or choosing shared mobility options. Together, these choices help keep the festival’s impact light while allowing the experience to shine bright.
Sky Lights is more than a celebration of art, culture, and unity — it is a commitment to caring for our planet. Through mindful materials, reduced waste, responsible cleanup, and renewable energy practices, we ensure that every lantern released into the sky reflects not only a wish for the future but a promise to protect it.
